SBTA launches drive against illegal blood banks

KARACHI - Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA) on the directives of provincial secretary health has expedited the process of monitoring blood banks across the province to ensure provision of safe blood to patients.

According to SBTA’s secretary, Dr Zahid Hussain Ansari, three teams have been formed for monitoring blood banks in Karachi, while teams constituted on district-level will carry out a similar exercise in other parts of the province.

Elaborating, he said all these monitoring teams have been authorized to check the quality of blood being provided by blood banks to patients.

He cautioned that if any blood bank was found guilty of violating the code of conduct will be sealed, besides all illegal blood banks will meet the same fate.

Giving details of the total 152 registered blood banks operation in the province, Dr Ansari said that of them 78 are operating in Karachi alone.
