Shallwani vows to bring improvement in health sector

KARACHI-  Sindh Health Secretary Iftikhar Shallwani has claimed that people of the province will notice 25 per cent improvement in the health sector within a year.

“Though the current healthcare scenario in the province is still a big challenge for the provincial authorties, officials have potential to bring overall improvement by applying better management skills in department,” he added.

He was sharing his views with newsmen in connection a with a three-day Sindh Health & Nutrition Festival at his office in Sindh Secretariat. The festival will be held in Tharparkar from April 8 to 10 and it will focuss on three main issues - nutrition, family planning and immunization, he added.

Mr Shallwani said: “We have all resources and equipments to provide health facilities to general public in far-flung areas of the province, but due to some management problems,  health authorities are not able to achieve their goals and targets in the health sector.”

Elaborating, he said major issue remains to be the lack of awareness among people about the importance of nutrition, health and family planning issues. It is for this purpose that Sindh health department has decided to celebrate month of April as a `Healthy Sindh Month’ (Sehatmand Sindh) so as to educate people about important health issues such as vaccination, nutrition and family planning, he added.

He announced that World Health Day is observed on April 7 every year and the health department will celebrate this day with a pledge to eradicate polio from Sindh. He said efforts are underway to reach out all those children who could not be vaccinated against polio during campaigns.
