Sindh govt attributes children's deaths to diarrhea, pneumonia

Islamabad: Sindh government in its report submitted in the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday attributed children’s deaths in Thar to diarrhoea and pneumonia.

Besides, the report also cited malnutrition as one of the reasons of the deaths, Dunya News reported.

According to the report, poverty, ignorance and food shortage were the main reasons due to which the children suffer from these fatal diseases. The written answer submitted in the Supreme Court says that poverty, poor sanitation and food shortage are the major reasons of the diseases.

The report further said that children aged below 5 die mainly due to diarrhoea and pneumonia, caused by ignorance, contaminated water, pollution and food shortage.

It also stated that Food Support Programme has been initiated and the people are now being educated about the issues. The capacity of the health department employees was also being improved while 1600 Basic Health Units are also functioning in the province under United Nations’ Global Action Plan, the report added.
