Staff nurse succumbs to coronavirus in Karachi

KARACHI: A staff nurse working at a private sector hospital of Karachi recently succumbed to the coronavirus.

The male staff nurse contracted the viral infection at a private hospital and was moved to the Indus Hospital Karachi for treatment. Later, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, where he died amidst treatment.

The Young Nurses Association Sindh demanded the status of martyrdom for healthcare professionals. It urged the provincial government to announce a compensation package for such frontline workers who die while serving their duties.

Eleven healthcare providers have lost their lives due to the coronavirus pandemic across the country so far.

At least 510 healthcare providers, including 263 doctors, 76 nurses, and 171 paramedics and other support staff members, have been diagnosed with the coronavirus since the outbreak of the viral disease in Pakistan.

Out of 510 cases, 128 were affected in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 108 in Baluchistan, 102 in Punjab, 98 in Sindh, 50 in Islamabad, 20 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and four in AJK.
