Islamabad: The Public at large has taken a sarcastic tone on the spike of the recent medicine prices in Pakistan. From ministers discouraging the public to purchasing pricy medicines to pharmacist making a mockery of the Pharmaceutical Company decision to raise prices, all have condemned the action.
Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar apprised the National Assembly that the multinational pharmaceutical companies have increased prices of medicines in light of stay order granted by the Sindh High Court (SHC).
She said the attorney general had also been contacted and that the next hearing would be held on February 23.
While the multinational companies contest that the price raise has been done to accommodate inflated cost of manufacturing and selling goods, however so has been done in accordance to the pricing mechanism layout by Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan.
The public at large has also discouraged the action of increasing the drug prices and some pharmacist have put up sarcastic signs at the shop fronts saying medicines are available on property documents and jewelry as collateral.
