KARACHI- A meeting was recently held by Project Director Expanded Programme for Immunization (EPI), Sindh at Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Sindh. It was decided that the EPI will extend the Typhoid vaccination campaign in Sindh. This was done to reach maximum children with the lifesaving typhoid conjugate vaccine (TCV).

While addressing the meeting, Project Director EPI Sindh appreciated the teams for vaccinating more than 9 million children. He highlighted that the team had achieved more than 90% of the 10.1 million children target during the campaign conducted in Sindh.

The Project Director also appreciated the Pakistan Paediatric Association and the media for tremendous support and taking this campaign as a national cause. He said, “We can give one more push to reach the maximum number of children and save them against Typhoid, we will continue the campaign.”

The future plan for the campaign was also shared in the meeting. It was mentioned that the campaign will be extended in Karachi where: school coverage for typhoid vaccination will continue to cover missed children, TCV vaccination would also continue in all major government and private hospitals, providing free vaccination to the eligible clientele. EPI centers in Karachi would continue providing TCV vaccination to missed children. Community-based vaccination (CBV) front line workers would support by referring missed children.

The District Health Officers would continue TCV vaccination activities in low performing Union Councils for 2 days with deployment of vaccinators and skilled Lady Health Workers for conducting outreach sessions in the community.
