Vape: New Killer on the Rise

Health agency in California has activated emergency operations to better investigate the outbreak of cigarettes, after a man has become its seventh person to die from a vaping-related illness in the United States. The latest California victim had been sick for several weeks after he suffered a “severe pulmonary injury associated with vaping.

Gov. of California, Gavin Newsom has announced to launch a $20 million ad campaign to warn against the dangers of vaping.

In the region, India has taken the lead by banning alternative smoking devices like e-cigarettes, heat-not-burn smoking devices, vape and e-nicotine flavoured hookahs. The move came just a week after US President Donald Trump proposed a ban on flavoured e-cigarettes.

Envisioned as a tool to combat tobacco addiction, electronic cigarettes and other vaping products have become a major problem and have increased the risk of children taking up smoking.

According to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, e-cigarettes will be banned in India with immediate effect.

Vaping-related illness recently killed another person in California, plus one person each in Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Oregon, officials have reported.

After the outbreak of lung injuries, the US Centers for Disease Control has activated its Emergency Operations Center, and the researchers are already looking into 380 cases of lung illness associated with the use of e-cigarettes in 36 states and the US Virgin Islands.

“Long-term effects of vaping on health are still unknown, however anyone considering vaping should be aware of the serious potential risk associated with vaping as cases of vaping-related illness had been identified in 11 counties already.
