Workshop on non-invasive ventilation

KARACHI- Murshid Hospital and Health Care Centre, Hub River Road, organized a workshop on “Non invasive Ventilation” for their Resident Medical Officers, PG students, physicians, anaesthetists and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) staff. Dr Sobia conducted the workshop.

In his welcome address, Murshid Hospital’s CEO, Dr Abdus Sattar Essa Jaffer, said that use of non-invasive ventilators has been increasing over a period of time because of new indications coming up with new diagnostic facilities. Sleep Apnoea is commonest indication for long use of non-invasive ventilators, he added.

Murshid Hospital’s chest physician Dr S. Zafaryab Hussain talked about types of respiratory failure, its causes and treatment.

He also highlighted indications and uses of non-invasive ventilator.

Health Care Hospital’s chest physician Dr Asif Naseem spoke about technical aspects of non-invasive ventilators, explaining in detail how and when to use Cpap or Bipap. He said all patients with Hypoxia needed Cpap, while patients with hypercapnia required Bipap.

Later, Dr Naseem with the help of Mr Waseem from Respro Care trained ICU doctors and staff in fixing mask and other setting of Bipap/Cpap in different conditions and patients.

Murshid Hospital’s physician, Dr Faiza Goman gave vote of thanks and presented token gifts to speakers of the workshop.
